Defining migraine days

A correct and standardized definition of a migraine day is important for clinical and research purposes. In our new article published in the scientific journal Cephalalgia, we compared different definitions of a migraine day using data from headache E-diaries of 1494 migraine patients.

Rare Disease Day

Today is international Rare Disease Day! The Leiden Headache Center not only conducts research into common headache disorders, but also into rare (migraine) syndromes, such as hemiplegic migraine, chronic cluster headache and RVCL-S (Retinal Vasculopathy with Cerebral Leukoencephalopathy and Systemic Manifestations).

That is the title of the inaugural lecture that Professor Gisela Terwindt will deliver on Friday 3 June. In her speech, she emphasizes the importance of research into the differences between women and men with migraine.

VIDI grant for Rolf Fronczek

Neurologist Rolf Fronczek was awarded the Vidi grant worth 800,000 in early July to investigate the role of sleep and the biological clock in cluster headaches. The research will be about the influence of sleep and the biological clock on cluster headache attacks.

The WHAT!-study

The WHAT! study started with the first part, the diary study. The influence of hormones on migraine attacks is being investigated through diaries of more than 500 women. If you are a woman and you think your migraine attacks are related to hormones, you can join!
